Senior Prom is a big deal for a lot of kids, and a lot of parents too. It marks the upcoming end of your adolescent school years, It might be the first time you've gotten all spruced up, and it may be the last dance you have for a long while.
I was proud to be selected as "prom photographer" by a friend of mine, as this will be the last of a lot of things for her to capture of her son. I don't do a ton of portrait (or even people) photography, so to say I was a little nervous is probably a major understatement. My goal was not only to capture photos of two kids getting ready to go to Prom, but to capture the emotions and excitement that come along with this milestone event as well.
I wanted to make my friend, her son, his girlfriend, and her parents proud of the images I was able to capture of this event, and I hope I accomplished that goal (and my personal goal of getting over my nervousness of capturing images of people).

One and a half years as a photographer, one year as a photography business owner, and today marks the first day towards a movement away from working to build up someone else's business.
It won't be a smooth, easy, or quick transition, and I fully acknowledge that I'll need help from many along the way (hence the Patreon). Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. The prom photo shoot today was a blast, I took around 240 photos and met three new friends.

Putting together my bag for tomorrow (shooting prom photos), and I thought “what the hell, you should make a What’s In My Bag video”, so here it is.
Wish me luck tomorrow, I’ve shot very few portrait style photos, and they always make me nervous for some reason. Probably because I have to know/express what I want the people to do for posing.

I've put together a few videos here and there, but haven't gone this in depth with one for a bit. Forgot just how much fun putting stuff together and being creative can be.
